Sahih Muslim 1156c (Book 13, Hadith 225) #9864
Fasting Habits of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the fasting habits of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he used to fast at times continuously and at times not.

Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported. I asked 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) about fasting of the Messenger of Allah . She said: He used to observe fast (at times) so continuously that we said: He has fasted, he has fasted. And (at times) he did not observe fast (for days) and we began to say: He has abandoned fasting, he has abandoned fasting. She said: I did not see him observing fast throughout the whole of the month since he arrived in Medina, but that of Ramadan.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the fasting habits of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which were observed by his wife 'A'isha. It is reported that he used to observe fast so continuously that people around him would say "He has fasted, he has fasted". However, there were also days when he did not observe any fasts and people would say "He has abandoned fasting, he has abandoned fasting". But it was observed that throughout the whole month since his arrival in Medina, except for Ramadan, he did not observe any other fasts. This hadith teaches us the importance of observing regular fasting as a part of our religious practice and also shows us how important it was for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to follow this practice himself.
