Fasting and Invitations

SUMMARY: If someone is invited to a meal while fasting, they should say that they are fasting.

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Apostle as saying: If any one of you is invited to a meal when he is fasting, he should say:" I am fasting".

QUICK LESSONS:
Inform your host if you're invited to a meal while you're fasting
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fasting and how to handle invitations when one is fasting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that if we are invited to a meal while we are fasting, we should politely inform the host that we are currently observing sawm or da'im. We should not break our fast without permission from the host or without a valid reason. This hadith teaches us respect for others and also reminds us of our commitment to Allah SWT in observing sawm during Ramadan or any other time of year.
