Fasting on 'Ashura Day

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent a person of the tribe of Aslam to remind people to fast on the day of 'Ashura and to complete their fast until evening if they had already eaten.

Salama b. al-Akwa' (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah sent a person of the tribe of Aslam on the day of 'Ashura and commanded him to declare to the people to observe fast in case they had not observed it, and to complete fast till evening if they had taken food

QUICK LESSONS:
Fast on Ashura Day if you haven't done so yet; Complete your fast till evening even if you have taken food beforehand; Strive your best in fulfilling religious obligations; Repent sincerely for any wrongdoings; Make an effort not repeat mistakes again in future inshaAllah!

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Salama b. al-Akwa' tells us about the importance of fasting on the day of 'Ashura, which is a significant day in Islamic history. On this day, Muslims commemorate the deliverance from Pharaoh's tyranny and oppression that was granted to Prophet Musa and his people by Allah Almighty. It is also said that fasting on this day can help expiate sins from previous years as well as current ones. Therefore, it is highly recommended for Muslims to observe fast on this special occasion in order to gain Allah's blessings and mercy. Furthermore, according to this hadith, if someone has already eaten something before being reminded about fasting then they should still complete their fast until evening time in order for it to be valid and accepted by Allah Almighty. This teaches us that we should always strive our best in fulfilling our religious obligations even if we have made mistakes or forgotten them at times; because Allah Almighty will always forgive us when we sincerely repent for our wrongdoings and make an effort not repeat them again in future inshaAllah!
