Sahih al-Bukhari 984 (Book 13, Hadith 33) #950
Sacrifice for the Needy

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) allowed a person to sacrifice a young she-goat instead of two sheep, due to his neighbors being very poor.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger offered the prayer on the day of Nahr and then delivered the Khutba and ordered that whoever had slaughtered his sacrifice before the prayer should repeat it, that is, should slaughter another sacrifice. Then a person from the Ansar stood up and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! because of my neighbors (he described them as being very needy or poor) I slaughtered before the prayer. I have a young she-goat which, in my opinion, is better than two sheep". The Prophet gave him the permission for slaughtering it as a sacrifice.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of compassion and generosity. It tells us that even if we are sacrificing an animal for religious purposes, we should still think of those who are in need and be generous towards them. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) allowed a man to sacrifice one young she-goat instead of two sheep because his neighbors were very poor. This teaches us that it is important to be kind and generous towards those who are less fortunate than us, even if it means sacrificing something that is precious or valuable to us. We should always remember that Allah rewards those who give charity and help others in need.
