Sahih al-Bukhari 985 (Book 13, Hadith 34) #951
Slaughtering Sacrifices on the Day of Nahr

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) instructed that anyone who had already slaughtered their sacrifice before the prayer should slaughter another animal in its place, and those who had not yet done so should do so while mentioning Allah's name.

Narrated Jundab: On the day of Nahr the Prophet offered the prayer and delivered the Khutba and then slaughtered the sacrifice and said, "Anybody who slaughtered (his sacrifice) before the prayer should slaughter another animal in lieu of it, and the one who has not yet slaughtered should slaughter the sacrifice mentioning Allah's name on it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow instructions from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Remember God when performing any action or task.

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of Nahr, which is a festival celebrated by Muslims to commemorate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed people to slaughter an animal as a sacrifice. He said that if someone had already slaughtered their animal before the prayer then they should slaughter another one in its place and if they hadn't yet done so then they should do it while mentioning Allah’s name. This teaches us that we must always remember God when doing any kind of action or task and also shows us how important it is for us to follow instructions given by our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
