Sahih Muslim 998b (Book 12, Hadith 53) #9452
Giving Away What You Love for Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of giving away what one loves for the sake of Allah.

Anas reported that when this verse was revealed: " You will not attain righteousness till you give freely of what you love," Abu Talha said: I see that our Lord has demanded from us out of our property; so I make you a witness, Messenger of Allah. that I give my land known as Bairaha' for the sake of Allah. Upon this the Messenger of Allah said: Give that to your relatives. So he gave it to Hassan b. Thabit and Ubayy b. Ka'b.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously from what you love for the sake of Allah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of charity and generosity in Islam. It is narrated by Anas that when a verse from the Quran was revealed, Abu Talha declared his intention to give away his land known as Bairaha' for the sake of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad then advised him to give it away to his relatives instead, which he did by giving it to Hassan b. Thabit and Ubayy b. Ka'b. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous with our wealth and possessions, even if it means sacrificing something we love or value dearly. We should not hesitate in giving away our wealth or property if it will benefit others, especially those who are close to us such as family members or friends. Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us that charity does not necessarily have to be monetary - we can also give away our time and energy in order to help others in need.
