Giving Slaves to Maternal Uncles for Greater Reward

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged Maimuna bint Harith to give her slave-girl to her maternal uncles, as it would bring a greater reward.

Maimuna bint Harith reported that she set free a slave-girl during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah and she made a mention of that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: Had you gives her to your maternal uncles, you would have a greater reward.
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو، عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّهَا أَعْتَقَتْ وَلِيدَةً فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ لَوْ أَعْطَيْتِهَا أَخْوَالَكِ كَانَ أَعْظَمَ لأَجْرِكِ

In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad encourages us to be generous and kind towards our relatives. He tells us that if we give away our slaves or possessions to our maternal uncles, we will receive a greater reward from Allah. This teaches us that generosity and kindness towards family members is highly valued in Islam and will be rewarded by Allah. We should also remember that slavery is not allowed in Islam and freeing slaves is an act of great virtue.
