Sahih Muslim 892f (Book 8, Hadith 21) #9208
Watching Fighting Demonstrations on Eid Day

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad invited A'isha to watch some Abyssinians demonstrate their fighting skills in the mosque on Eid day.

'A'isha reported that some Abyssinians came and gave a demonstration of armed fight on the 'Id day in the mosque. The Apostle of Allah invited me (to see that fight). I placed my head on his shoulder and began to see their sport till it was I who turned away from watching them.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respectfully watch demonstrations of fighting when appropriate

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of Eid, some people from Abyssinia came to the mosque and demonstrated their fighting skills. The Prophet Muhammad invited A'isha to watch them. She placed her head on his shoulder and watched them until she got tired of watching. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to watch demonstrations of fighting as long as it is done in a respectful manner and not for entertainment purposes only. It also shows us how much love and care the Prophet had for A'isha by inviting her to join him in watching this demonstration together.
