Sahih Muslim 850d (Book 7, Hadith 36) #9133
The Importance of Attending Friday Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of attending Friday prayer in the mosque and how angels record those who come first.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: There is an angel on every door of the mosque recording him first who (comes) first (to the mosque for Friday prayer). And he the Prophet likened him to one who offers a camel as a sacrifice and then he went on in the descending order till he reached the point at which the minimum (sacrifice) is that of an egg. And when the Imam sits (on the pulpit) the sheets are folded and they (the angels) attend to the mention of Allah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Attend Friday prayers in mosques with devotion and respectfulness .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of attending Friday prayer in a mosque. It explains that there is an angel at every door of the mosque recording who comes first for prayer. The Prophet then compares this to offering a camel as a sacrifice and then going down in order until it reaches an egg as the minimum sacrifice. When the Imam sits on the pulpit, all sheets are folded and angels attend to Allah’s mention. This hadith emphasizes that attending Friday prayers is important and those who come first will be rewarded by Allah for their devotion. It also shows us how much respect we should have when we enter a mosque; all sheets should be folded out of respect for God’s mention being made inside it.
