Praying Two Rak'ahs

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Shurahbil b. al-Simt who saw 'Umar praying two rak'ahs at Dhu'l-Hulaifa and was doing the same as he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing.

Jubair b. Nufair reported: I went along with Shurahbil b. al-Simt to a village which was situated at a distance of seventeen or eighteen miles, and he said only two rak'ahs of prayer. I said to him (about it) and he said: I saw 'Umar observing two rak'ahs at Dhu'l-Hulaifa and I (too) said to him (about it) and he said: I am doing the same as I saw the Messenger of Allah doing.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in our prayers .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to perform prayer correctly according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It tells us that Shurahbil b. al-Simt went with Jubair b. Nufair to a village which was situated at a distance of seventeen or eighteen miles and he observed only two rak’ahs in his prayer there. When Jubair asked him why he did so, Shurahbil said that he saw ‘Umar observing two rak’ahs at Dhu’l Hulaifa and when ‘Umar was asked about it, he replied that he was following what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did in his prayers there too. This hadith teaches us that we should follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in our prayers and not innovate any new practices or rituals into it as this could lead to incorrect worshiping practices which are not accepted by God Almighty according to Islam teachings.
