Praying in the Afternoon Sun

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray the afternoon prayer when the sun was high and bright.

Anas b. Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah used to pray the afternoon prayer when the sun was high and bright, then one would go off to al-'Awali and get there while the sun was still high. Ibn Qutaiba made no mention of" one would go off to al-'Awali".
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ حَيَّةٌ فَيَذْهَبُ الذَّاهِبُ إِلَى الْعَوَالِي فَيَأْتِي الْعَوَالِيَ وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قُتَيْبَةُ فَيَأْتِي الْعَوَالِيَ

This hadith is about the importance of praying in the afternoon when the sun is still high. It was reported by Anas b. Malik that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray at this time of day and then go off to al-'Awali while it was still sunny outside. This hadith teaches us that we should take advantage of our time during daylight hours and use it for prayer as much as possible. We should also be mindful of how we spend our time and make sure that we are using it wisely for activities that will benefit us spiritually such as prayer or other acts of worship. Additionally, this hadith encourages us to be punctual with our prayers so that they can be done at their appointed times without delay or procrastination.
