Sahih Muslim 571a (Book 5, Hadith 110) #8424
Doubt in Prayer

SUMMARY: When one is uncertain about the number of rak'ahs they have prayed, they should cast aside their doubt and perform two prostrations before giving salutations.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah said: When any one of you is in doubt about his prayer and he does Dot know how much he has prayed, three or four (rak'ahs). he should cast aside his doubt and base his prayer on what he is sure of. then perform two prostrations before giving salutations. If he has prayed five rak'ahs, they will make his prayer an even number for him, and if he has prayed exactly four, they will be humiliation for the devil.

QUICK LESSONS:
Cast aside your doubt when praying , Perform two prostrations before giving salutations .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of prayer and how to handle any doubts that may arise during prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that if one is unsure about how many rak'ahs they have prayed, they should cast aside their doubt and perform two prostrations before giving salutations. This will ensure that if the person has prayed five rak'ahs, it will make their prayer an even number for them. If the person has only prayed four rak'ahs, then these two extra prostrations will be humiliation for the devil. This hadith teaches us to always strive for certainty in our prayers and not let any doubts linger in our minds as we pray. It also reminds us of the importance of performing extra acts of worship such as prostration which can help ward off evil from ourselves and others around us.
