Follow instructions given by the prophet PBUH even if they seem difficult at first; Use alternative methods when necessary; Respect religious practices; Be patient and resourceful in times of difficulty; Adapt according to circumstances; Wipe over your socks when travelling instead of using water for wudu'.

This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's demonstration of how to perform ablution for prayer while on a journey. It is narrated by Mughira b. Shu'ba who was in the company of the Prophet during this journey. The Prophet asked Mughira to take hold of a jar of water and proceeded ahead until he was out of sight. He then relieved himself and came back wearing a tight-sleeved Syrian gown which made it difficult for him to get his forearms out from under it in order to perform ablution with water. Instead, he wiped over his socks as an alternative way of performing ablution before praying. This hadith teaches us that when we are on a journey, we can use an alternative method such as wiping over our socks instead of using water if it is not available or if we are unable to use it due to certain circumstances such as clothing restrictions or physical limitations etc..
