Sahih Muslim 151a (Book 1, Hadith 289) #7554
Strength of Faith in Difficult Times

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Yusuf, and how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wished he had the same strength of faith as them.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah observed: We have more claim to doubt than Ibrahim when he said: My Lord! Show me how Thou wilt quicken the dead. He said: Believeth thou not? He said: Yes! But that my heart may rest at ease. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: May Lord take mercy on Lot, that he wanted a strong support, and had I stayed (in the prison) as long as Yusuf stayed, I would have responded to him who invited me.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in God no matter what situation you are facing; strive for a strong support system; respond positively when faced with difficult situations; show patience like Lot did during his trials.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of having faith in difficult times. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah said that even when Ibrahim asked for a sign from God, he still believed. The Prophet Muhammad also spoke highly of Lot's patience and strength during his trials. He then went on to say that if he were to stay in prison as long as Yusuf did, he would have responded positively to those who invited him. This hadith teaches us that we should always have faith in God no matter what situation we are facing, and be patient like Lot was during his trials. We should also strive to have a strong support system like Yusuf did while being tested by God so we can respond positively when faced with difficult situations.
