Sahih al-Bukhari 739 (Book 10, Hadith 133) #713
Raising Hands During Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and Ibn 'Umar's practice of raising their hands during prayer.

Narrated Nafi': Whenever Ibn 'Umar started the prayer with Takbir, he used to raise his hands: whenever he bowed, he used to raise his hands (before bowing) and also used to raise his hands on saying, "Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah", and he used to do the same on rising from the second rak'a (for the 3rd rak'a). Ibn 'Umar said: "The Prophet used to do the same".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respectfully follow Allah's commands while praying .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the practice of raising one's hands during prayer. It was narrated by Nafi', who said that whenever Ibn 'Umar started his prayer with Takbir, he would raise his hands. He would also raise his hands when bowing and when saying "Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah". Ibn 'Umar said that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to do the same. This shows us that it is important to raise our hands in certain parts of our prayers, as this was a practice done by both the Prophet Muhammad and Ibn 'Umar.
