Sahih al-Bukhari 738 (Book 10, Hadith 132) #712
Prayer Ritual of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his prayer ritual, specifically how he raised his hands to the level of his shoulders when saying the Takbir.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: I saw Allah's Messenger opening the prayer with the Takbir and raising his hands to the level of his shoulders at the time of saying the Takbir, and on saying the Takbir for bowing he did the same; and when he said, "Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah ", he did the same and then said, "Rabbana wa laka lhamd". But he did not do the same on prostrating and on lifting the head from it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow examples set by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during prayer rituals .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prayer ritual of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It explains how he would raise his hands to the level of his shoulders when saying the Takbir, which is a phrase that means “God is great” in Arabic. He also did this when saying “Sami'a l-lahu liman hamidah” which means “God hears those who praise Him” in Arabic. However, he did not do this on prostrating or lifting up from it. This shows us that we should be mindful and respectful during our prayers and follow what our beloved prophet ﷺ did as an example for us to follow.
