Sahih al-Bukhari 716 (Book 10, Hadith 111) #691
The Prophet's Last Illness and Prayer Leadership

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (ﷺ) last illness and his instructions to Abu Bakr and Umar to lead the people in prayer.

Narrated 'Aisha: the mother of the faithful believers: Allah's Messenger in his last illness said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer". I said, "If Abu Bakr stood in your place, he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So please order 'Umar to lead the prayer". He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer". I said to Hafsa, "Say to him, 'Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted man and if he stood in your place he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So order 'Umar to lead the people in the prayer'. " Hafsa did so but Allah's Messenger said, "Keep quiet. Verily you are the companions of (Prophet) Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer". Hafsa said to me, "I never got any good from you".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's last illness before he passed away. During this time, he instructed Abu Bakr and Umar to lead the people in prayer. 'Aisha suggested that Umar should be asked to lead instead of Abu Bakr because she thought that Abu Bakr would not be able to make himself heard due to his weeping. However, the Prophet insisted on asking Abu Bakr as he was a soft-hearted man who could handle it better than anyone else. This hadith teaches us that even during difficult times, we should remain strong and have faith in Allah’s plan for us. It also shows us how important it is for leaders to be compassionate towards their followers so they can understand them better and help them through tough times with kindness rather than harsh words or actions.
