Sahih al-Bukhari 7005 (Book 91, Hadith 23) #6734
Seeking Refuge from Bad Dreams

SUMMARY: Dreams can be from Allah or Satan, and if one has a bad dream they should seek refuge with Allah.

Narrated Abu Qatada Al-Ansari: (a companion of the Prophet and one of his cavalry men) "I heard Allah's Messenger saying, "A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan; so, if anyone of you had a bad dream which he disliked, then he should spit on his left and seek refuge with Allah from it, for it will not harm him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek protection in times of difficulty, Turn to God for comfort .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of dreams and how to protect oneself from bad dreams. It was narrated by Abu Qatada Al-Ansari, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad. The hadith states that good dreams come from Allah and bad dreams come from Satan. If someone has a bad dream that they don't like, they should spit on their left side and seek refuge with Allah for it will not harm them. This teaches us to always turn to Allah in times of difficulty or distress as He is our protector and source of comfort. We must also remember that we are not alone in this world; there are forces at work beyond our control which can affect us negatively if we do not take precautions such as seeking refuge with Allah when faced with adversity.
