Theft Punishment in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ cut off the hand of a thief for stealing a shield that was worth three Dirhams.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: The Prophet cut off the hand of a thief for stealing a shield that was worth three Dirhams.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَطَعَ النَّبِيُّ فِي مِجَنٍّ ثَمَنُهُ ثَلاَثَةُ دَرَاهِمَ‏.‏

This hadith is about the punishment for theft in Islam.
