Spending Property in Charity

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the property of prophets should not be inherited, but rather spent in charity.

Narrated 'Urwa: 'Aisha said, "When Allah's Messenger died, his wives intended to send 'Uthman to Abu Bakr asking him for their share of the inheritance". Then 'Aisha said to them, "Didn't Allah's Messenger say, 'Our (Apostles') property is not to be inherited, and whatever we leave is to be spent in charity?'"
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها أَنَّ أَزْوَاجَ، النَّبِيِّ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَرَدْنَ أَنْ يَبْعَثْنَ عُثْمَانَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ يَسْأَلْنَهُ مِيرَاثَهُنَّ‏.‏ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَلَيْسَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لاَ نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ
