Sahih al-Bukhari 6731 (Book 85, Hadith 8) #6474
The Prophet's Closeness to Believers

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ is closer to the believers than their own selves, and if a believer dies in debt, the Prophet will pay it off on their behalf. If they leave behind property, it will be given to their heirs.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "I am more closer to the believers than their own selves, so whoever (of them) dies while being in debt and leaves nothing for its repayment, then we are to pay his debts on his behalf and whoever (among the believers) dies leaving some property, then that property is for his heirs".

QUICK LESSONS:
Take responsibility for others' debts/property/wealth after death .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the closeness of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his believers. It teaches us that even after death, he is still looking out for them and taking care of them. If a believer dies while in debt and has no way of paying it off, then the Prophet ﷺ will take care of it on their behalf. Similarly, if they leave behind any property or wealth when they die, then that property or wealth will be given to their heirs as inheritance according to Islamic law. This hadith reminds us that even after death we are not alone; Allah SWT and His Messenger ﷺ are always with us in spirit and looking out for our best interests.
