Sahih al-Bukhari 6587 (Book 81, Hadith 175) #6335
Staying True to Faith

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of staying true to one's faith and not turning away from it, even when the Prophet (PBUH) is not present.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "While I was sleeping, a group (of my followers were brought close to me), and when I recognized them, a man (an angel) came out from amongst (us) me and them, he said (to them), 'Come along'. I asked, 'Where?' He said, 'To the (Hell) Fire, by Allah' I asked, 'what is wrong with them' He said, 'They turned apostate as renegades after you left'. Then behold! (Another) group (of my followers) were brought close to me, and when I recognized them, a man (an angel) came out from (me and them) he said (to them); Come along'. I asked, "Where?' He said, 'To the (Hell) Fire, by Allah'. I asked, What is wrong with them?' He said, 'They turned apostate as renegades after you left. So I did not see anyone of them escaping except a few who were like camels without a shepherd".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain steadfast in your faith; remember Allah's presence at all times; stay loyal despite absence of guidance or support from others; follow teachings of Islam even when alone or without guidance from others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of staying true to one's faith and not turning away from it. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was told in a dream that two groups of his followers were taken away by an angel. He asked where they were being taken and was told that they were being taken to Hellfire because they had turned apostate after he left them. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) then saw that only a few people remained who stayed true to their faith despite his absence. This teaches us that we must remain steadfast in our faith even when we are alone or without guidance from others. We must remember that Allah will always be with us and will guide us if we stay true to Him and His teachings.
