Sahih al-Bukhari 6416 (Book 81, Hadith 5) #6165
Living Life as a Traveler

SUMMARY: This hadith encourages us to live our lives as if we are travelers, and to be prepared for death at any time.

Narrated Mujahid: 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "Allah's Messenger took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler". The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to live our lives with the mindset of a traveler. We should not become too attached to this world, but instead remember that we are only here temporarily. We should also take care of our health and prepare for death at any time, since it can come unexpectedly. The Prophet Muhammad is teaching us that life is short and unpredictable, so we must make the most of it while we can.
