Characteristics of Fitra

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that five practices are characteristics of the Fitra, which include circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails and depilating the hair of the armpits.

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying".Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails, and depilating the hair of the armpits".
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ الْفِطْرَةُ خَمْسٌ الْخِتَانُ، وَالاِسْتِحْدَادُ، وَقَصُّ الشَّارِبِ، وَتَقْلِيمُ الأَظْفَارِ، وَنَتْفُ الآبَاطِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about five practices that are characteristics of Fitra. These practices include circumcision, shaving pubic hair, cutting moustaches short, clipping nails and depilating armpit hair. Circumcision is a practice in which a male's foreskin is removed. Shaving pubic hair means removing all or some of it from around one's genitals. Cutting moustaches short means trimming them so they do not hang over one's upper lip or mouth. Clipping nails means trimming them so they do not become too long and sharp. Depilating armpit hair means removing it from under one's arms using waxing or other methods. These five practices are important for Muslims to follow as they are part of their faith and help keep them clean and healthy according to Islamic teachings.
