Keeping Beards and Cutting Moustaches Short

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ instructed to do the opposite of what pagans do, which is to keep the beards and cut the moustaches short.

Narrated Nafi': Ibn 'Umar said, The Prophet said, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut the moustaches short'. Whenever Ibn 'Umar performed the Hajj or 'Umra, he used to hold his beard with his hand and cut whatever remained outside his hold.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow instructions given by Prophet Muhammad regarding facial hair; Keep your beard long; Cut your mustache short; Show devotion towards Islam; Show pride in your faith; Present yourself as a Muslim

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Muslims should look different from pagans. The Prophet Muhammad instructed Muslims to keep their beards and cut their moustaches short. This was a way for Muslims to stand out from those who practiced paganism, or shirk in Arabic. It was also a way for them to show that they were devoted followers of Islam. By keeping their beards long, it showed that they were proud of being Muslim and wanted others to know it too. By cutting their moustaches short, it showed that they did not want anything on their faces that could distract them from worshipping Allah or following His teachings. This hadith teaches us an important lesson about how we should present ourselves as Muslims in order to show our devotion and pride in our faith.
