Sahih al-Bukhari 5490 (Book 72, Hadith 16) #5266
Allah's Provision for His Companions

SUMMARY: Allah provided sustenance to the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the form of an Onager.

Narrated Abu Qatada: that once he was with Allah's Messenger (on the way to Mecca). When he had covered some of the way to Mecca, he and some companions of his, who were in the state of Ihram. remained behind the Prophet while Abu Qatada himself was not in the state of Ihram. Abu Qatada, seeing an Onager rode his horse and asked his companions to hand him a whip, but they refused. He then asked them to hand him his spear, but they refused. Then he took it himself and attacked the Onager and killed it. Some of the Companions of Allah's Messenger ate of it, but some others refused to eat. When they met Allah's Apostle they asked him about that. He said, "It was meal given to you by Allah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful towards God's blessings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Allah provided sustenance to the companions of Prophet Muhammad during their journey to Mecca. Abu Qatada and his companions were on their way when they saw an Onager and Abu Qatada rode his horse and killed it with a spear. Some of them ate from it while others refused but when they met Prophet Muhammad he said that it was a meal given by Allah as provision for them. This hadith teaches us that we should always be grateful for whatever sustenance we receive from Allah no matter what form it comes in because He is the one who provides us with all our needs. We should also remember that even if something seems small or insignificant at first glance, it could still be a blessing from God so we should never take anything for granted or refuse any kind of help or assistance offered to us by Him.
