SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was invited to a meal by a tailor and enjoyed the soup containing gourd, which Anas bin Malik liked ever since.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: A tailor invited the Prophet to a meal which he had prepared, and I went along with the Prophet . The tailor presented barley bread and soup containing gourd and cured meat. I saw the Prophet picking the pieces of gourd from around the dish, and since then I have kept on liking gourd.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful for whatever food you are served no matter how simple it may be .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the time when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was invited to a meal by a tailor. Anas bin Malik went along with him and they were served barley bread and soup containing gourd and cured meat. The Prophet ﷺ enjoyed it so much that he picked out pieces of gourd from around the dish, which made an impression on Anas bin Malik who has liked gourds ever since. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for whatever food we are served, no matter how simple it may be, as even something as simple as gourds can bring joy to our hearts if we appreciate it enough. We should also remember that even small acts of kindness can make an impact on others; in this case, it was the tailor’s kind gesture of inviting them for dinner that left such an impression on Anas bin Malik’s heart.
