Refusal of Permission for Marriage

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) refused to give permission for Ali to marry the daughter of Banu Al-Mughira.

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama Az-Zuhri: I heard the Prophet saying, "Banu Al-Mughira have asked my leave to let 'Ali marry their daughter, but I give no leave to this effect".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ بَنِي الْمُغِيرَةِ اسْتَأْذَنُوا فِي أَنْ يَنْكِحَ عَلِيٌّ ابْنَتَهُمْ، فَلاَ آذَنُ

It also shows us that we should always respect and obey our elders and those in authority over us. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should never take any decision without consulting with those who are more knowledgeable than ourselves or have more experience in a certain matter.
