Sahih al-Bukhari 5187 (Book 67, Hadith 121) #4967
Conversing with Wives During the Time of the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised his followers to be mindful of their conversations with their wives, as they should not engage in idle talk. After the Prophet's death, this advice was no longer followed.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: During the lifetime of the Prophet we used to avoid chatting leisurely and freely with our wives lest some Divine inspiration might be revealed concerning us. But when the Prophet had died, we started chatting leisurely and freely (with them).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how people should act when conversing with their wives during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ advised his followers to be mindful of their conversations and not engage in idle talk, as it could lead to divine inspiration being revealed concerning them. After his death, this advice was no longer followed and people were free to chat leisurely and freely with their wives without fear of divine revelation. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our words and actions when interacting with others, especially those closest to us such as our spouses or family members. We must also remember that Allah is always watching over us and can reveal His will at any moment if He so chooses.
