Sahih al-Bukhari 5142 (Book 67, Hadith 78) #4924
Respectful Bargaining and Engagement

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to try and cancel a bargain between two people or ask for the hand of a girl who is already engaged to another Muslim.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet decreed that one should not try to cancel a bargain already agreed upon between some other persons (by offering a bigger price). And a man should not ask for the hand of a girl who is already engaged to his Muslim brother, unless the first suitor gives her up, or allows him to ask for her hand.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect agreements between two other people

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that it is important to respect agreements between people, even if we are offered something better. We should not try to cancel an agreement between two other people by offering a bigger price, nor should we ask for the hand of someone who has already been engaged to another Muslim unless they give up their engagement or allow us to ask for her hand. This hadith emphasizes the importance of respecting agreements and contracts made by others, as well as respecting those who have already made commitments with others. It also encourages us to be mindful of our actions when it comes to matters such as marriage proposals, so that we do not cause any harm or distress in our community.
