Praising Two Men for Their Actions

SUMMARY: The hadith is about two people who are praised for their actions and the wish of others to be like them.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger I said, "Not to wish to be the like of except two men: A man whom Allah has taught the Qur'an and he recites it during the hours of the night and during the hours of the day, and his neighbor listens to him and says, 'I wish I had been given what has been given to so-and-so, so that I might do what he does; and a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it on what is just and right, whereupon an other man May say, 'I wish I had been given what so-and-so has been given, for then I would do what he does".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about two men who are praised by Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him. The first man is someone who has been taught the Quran and recites it during the day and night, while his neighbor listens to him and wishes he was given what this man has been given so that he can do what he does. The second man is someone who has been given wealth from Allah, which he spends on what is just and right. Other people may also wish they were given what this man has been given so that they can do as he does. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to be like these two men in our own lives; we should learn the Quran and spend our wealth on good causes in order to please Allah. We should also appreciate those around us who have achieved such a level of righteousness, rather than wishing we were in their place or envying them for their accomplishments.
