Sahih al-Bukhari 4732 (Book 65, Hadith 254) #4515
Denying Allah's Signs Leads to Loss

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a man who refused to pay his debt until the other person disbelieved in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The verse revealed in response to this situation teaches us that those who deny Allah's signs will not be given wealth and children.

Narrated Khabbab: I came to Al-'Asi bin Wail As-Sahmi and demanded something which he owed me. He said, "I will not give you (your money) till you disbelieve in Muhammad". I said, "No, I shall not disbelieve in Muhammad till you die and then be resurrected". He said, "Will I die and then be resurrected?" I said, 'Yes'. He said', "Then I will have wealth and children there, and I will pay you (there)". So this Verse was revealed:-- 'Have you then seen him who disbelieved in Our Signs and (yet) says: I shall certainly be given wealth and children? (19:77)

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man named Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, who was owed money by another man. When he asked for his money, the other man refused to pay him unless he disbelieved in Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Khabbab refused and said that he would only disbelieve when the other man died and was resurrected. In response, Allah revealed a verse from the Quran which states that those who deny His signs will not be given wealth or children. This hadith teaches us that denying Allah’s signs leads to loss and suffering in this world as well as the hereafter. It also reminds us of how important it is for us to believe in Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and follow his teachings so we can receive blessings from Allah both here on earth and in paradise after death.
