Sahih al-Bukhari 4474 (Book 65, Hadith 1) #4262
The Greatest Sura in the Qur'an

SUMMARY: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) taught Abu Sa'id bin Al-Mu'alla the greatest Sura in the Qur'an, which is Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-'alamin (Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds).

Narrated Abu Sa'id bin Al-Mu'alla: While I was praying in the Mosque, Allah's Messenger called me but I did not respond to him. Later I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I was praying". He said, "Didn't Allah say'--"Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle when he calls you". (8:24) He then said to me, "I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an, before you leave the Mosque". Then he got hold of my hand, and when he intended to leave (the Mosque), I said to him, "Didn't you say to me, 'I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an?' He said, "Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-'alamin (ie Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds) which is Al-Sab'a Al-Mathani (ie seven repeatedly recited Verses) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me".

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God & His Messenger whenever they call you ; Praise God for all his blessings on you ; Respect religious places like Mosques .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a conversation between Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Abu Sa’id bin Al Mu’alla. While Abu Sa’id was praying in a Mosque, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ called him but he did not respond. When he finished his prayer, he asked why he didn't answer and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reminded him of a verse from Quran 8:24 which says “Give your response to Allah and His Apostle when He calls you". Then Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught him what is known as “Al Hamdulillah Rabbil Aalameen" or "Praise be to God, Lord of all Worlds". This is considered one of the greatest surahs in Quran because it contains seven verses that are repeated several times. It also reminds us that we should always obey God and His messenger whenever they call us. We should also remember to praise God for all his blessings on us.
