Sahih al-Bukhari 4317 (Book 64, Hadith 348) #4121
Proclaiming His Identity as a Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was not fleeing from the battle of Hunain, but rather he was riding his white mule and proclaiming his identity as a prophet.

Narrated Abu 'Is-haq: That he heard Al-Bara narrating when a man from Qais (tribe) asked him "Did you flee leaving Allah's Messenger on the day (of the battle) of Hunain?" Al-Bara' replied, "But Allah's Messenger did not flee. The people of Hawazin were good archers, and when we attacked them, they fled. But rushing towards the booty, we were confronted by the arrows (of the enemy). I saw the Prophet riding his white mule while Abu Sufyan was holding its reins, and the Prophet was saying "I am the Prophet undoubtedly". (Israil and Zuhair said, "The Prophet dismounted from his Mule")

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the battle of Hunain which took place in 8 AH/630 CE. During this battle, the people of Hawazin were good archers and when they attacked them they fled. However, when some Muslims rushed towards the booty they were confronted by arrows from the enemy. At this point in time, Abu Sufyan was holding onto the reins of a white mule that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was riding on while proclaiming his identity as a prophet. This hadith teaches us that even in difficult times we should remain steadfast to our faith and proclaim it with pride no matter what obstacles come our way. It also teaches us to be patient during difficult times and trust Allah's plan for us instead of rushing into things without thinking it through first.
