Burning of Al-Buwaira

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) burned the date-palm trees of Bani An-Nadir and Hassan bin Thabit composed a poem about it. Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith replied to Hassan in poetic verses.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet burnt the date-palm trees of Bani An-Nadir. Hassan bin Thabit said the following poetic Verses about this event:-- "the terrible burning of Al-Buwaira Has been received indifferently By the nobles of Bani Luai (The masters and nobles of Quraish)". Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith (ie the Prophet's cousin who was still a disbeliever then) replied to Hassan, saying in poetic verses:-- "May Allah bless that burning And set all its (ie Medina's) Parts on burning fire. You will see who is far from it (ie Al-Buwaira) And which of our lands will be Harmed by it (ie the burning of Al- Buwaira).
حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَبَّانُ، أَخْبَرَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ بْنُ أَسْمَاءَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ حَرَّقَ نَخْلَ بَنِي النَّضِيرِ قَالَ وَلَهَا يَقُولُ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَهَانَ عَلَى سَرَاةِ بَنِي لُؤَىٍّ حَرِيقٌ بِالْبُوَيْرَةِ مُسْتَطِيرُ قَالَ فَأَجَابَهُ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَدَامَ اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ صَنِيعٍ وَحَرَّقَ فِي نَوَاحِيهَا السَّعِيرُ سَتَعْلَمُ أَيُّنَا مِنْهَا بِنُزْهٍ وَتَعْلَمُ أَىَّ أَرْضَيْنَا تَضِيرُ

This hadith is about the burning of the date palm trees of Bani An Nadir by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that Hassan Bin Thabit composed a poem about this event and Abu Sufyan Bin Al Harith replied to him in poetic verses. This hadith teaches us that we should be patient when faced with difficult situations and not give up hope as Allah will always help us in our time of need. We should also remember that Allah is all powerful and can do anything He wills, so we must have faith in Him at all times. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us the importance of poetry as a form of expression which can be used to convey messages effectively even during difficult times.
