The Reward of Patience in Harm

SUMMARY: No matter how small the harm, Allah will forgive a Muslim's sins if they endure it with patience.

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I visited the Prophet when he was suffering fever. I said, "You seem to be suffering greatly, O Messenger of Allah". The Prophet replied, "Yes, I suffer as much as two persons". I said, "Is that because you have a double reward?" He replied that that was so and then said, "No Muslim is afflicted by a harm, be it the pricking of a thorn or something more (painful than that), but Allah thereby causes his sins to fall away just as a tree sheds its leaves". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Endure harms patiently for double reward

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the reward of patience in harm. It was narrated by Ibn Mas'ud that he visited the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he was suffering from fever. When asked why he was suffering so much, the Prophet ﷺ replied that it was because he would receive double reward for enduring his pain and suffering. He then went on to explain that no matter how small or insignificant a harm may be - such as being pricked by a thorn - Allah will forgive any sins committed by those who endure it patiently and with faith. This hadith teaches us to remain patient and steadfast even when faced with difficulties or hardships as we can be sure that our efforts will not go unrewarded; rather we will receive great rewards from Allah for our patience and perseverance.
