Riyad as-Salihin 1726 (Book 17, Hadith 216) #38215
The Cleansing Power of Fever

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught us to not revile fever, as it is a means of cleansing the sins of mankind.

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah visited Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab) and asked her, "What ails you O Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musaiyyab)? You are shivering". She replied: "It is a fever, may Allah not bless it!" He said to her, "Do not revile fever, for it cleanses out the sins of the sons of Adam in the same way that a furnace removes the dirt of iron". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ visited Umm Sa'ib and asked her what was wrong. She replied that she had a fever, and he told her not to revile it as it cleanses out the sins of mankind in the same way that a furnace removes dirt from iron. This teaches us that we should be grateful for all things, even those which may seem unpleasant or difficult at first glance. It also reminds us that Allah has given us many blessings in life and we should be thankful for them all. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to have faith in Allah’s plan and trust that He knows what is best for us even if we don’t understand why something is happening at first.
