Differentiating from Non-Muslims

SUMMARY: Muslims should not imitate Jews and Christians in their practices.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: "Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so act differently from them". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic teachings instead of blindly following customs of other faiths or cultures

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of differentiating oneself from non-Muslims. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was teaching his followers to be distinct from the practices of Jews and Christians, even if it was something as small as dyeing their hair. He wanted them to have a unique identity that would set them apart from other religions, so that they could be easily recognized by others. This hadith also teaches us to be mindful of our actions and how they may affect our faith and identity as Muslims. We should strive to practice only those things which are in accordance with Islamic teachings, rather than blindly following the customs of other faiths or cultures.
