Riyad as-Salihin 1311 (Book 11, Hadith 27) #37800
The Dignity of Martyrdom

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) said that no one who has entered Jannah will desire to return to this world, except a martyr, as they will yearn for the dignity and excellence of martyrdom.

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "No one who has entered Jannah will desire to return to this world even if he should be given all that the world contains, except a martyr. For he will yearn that he should return to the world and be killed ten times on account of the dignity that he will experience by virtue of his martyrdom". Another narration is: "On account of the excellence and distinction, he will experience as a result of martyrdom". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the dignity and excellence of martyrdom. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that no one who has entered Jannah will desire to return to this world, even if they were given all its riches. However, a martyr would be an exception as they would yearn for the dignity and excellence experienced through their martyrdom. This hadith teaches us that those who are martyred in Allah's cause are highly esteemed in His sight and have been promised great rewards in Paradise. It also encourages us to strive for such a noble status by sacrificing our lives for Allah's cause if necessary.
