Fasting on the 10th of Muharram

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) noticed that some Jews were fasting on the 10th of Muharram and he declared that Muslims have more right to observe fast on this day.

Narrated Abu Musa: When the Prophet arrived at Medina, he noticed that some people among the Jews used to respect Ashura' (ie 10th of Muharram) and fast on it. The Prophet then said, "We have more right to observe fast on this day". and ordered that fasting should be observed on it.
حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ ـ أَوْ مُحَمَّدُ ـ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْغُدَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عُمَيْسٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ الْمَدِينَةَ وَإِذَا أُنَاسٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ يُعَظِّمُونَ عَاشُورَاءَ وَيَصُومُونَهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِصَوْمِهِ ‏"‏‏.‏ فَأَمَرَ بِصَوْمِهِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arrived in Medina, he noticed that some people among the Jews used to respect and fast on the 10th day of Muharram. This is a month in Islamic calendar which is considered sacred by Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ then said that Muslims have more right to observe fast on this day and ordered them to do so. This hadith teaches us about respecting other religions and their practices while also being proud of our own beliefs and traditions. It also encourages us to be mindful of our religious obligations as well as those around us who may practice different faiths or customs than ours.
