Riyad as-Salihin 1185 (Book 8, Hadith 195) #37674
Seeking Pardon During Salat

SUMMARY: When performing Salat, one should not doze off and if they do, they should lie down until the drowsiness passes. If one does perform Salat while dozing, they should seek pardon instead of abusing themselves.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet said, "When one of you dozes off while performing Salat, he should lie down till his drowsiness has gone away from him. When one of you performs Salat while dozing, he may abuse himself instead of seeking pardon (as a result of drowsiness)". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain focused on your prayers ; Seek forgiveness from Allah ; Show humility towards God's commands .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing salat in a state of wakefulness and alertness. It teaches us that when we are performing salat, we must remain focused and attentive to our prayer. If we find ourselves dozing off during salat, it is better to lie down until the drowsiness passes rather than continuing with our prayer in a state of distraction or sleep. Additionally, if one does perform salah while dozing off then it is important to seek forgiveness from Allah instead of berating oneself for not being able to stay awake during prayer time. This hadith reminds us that even though mistakes can happen during worshiping Allah, seeking forgiveness for them is more important than anything else as it shows humility and sincerity towards God's commands.
