Riyad as-Salihin 1067 (Book 8, Hadith 77) #37556
Praying at Home with Permission from Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a blind man asking the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for permission to pray at home due to the presence of poisonous insects and wild beasts in Madinah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) granted his request on the condition that he could hear the call for prayer.

'Abdullah bin Umm Maktum, the Mu'adhdhin (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said to the Messenger of Allah : "There are many poisonous insects and wild beasts in Al-Madinah, and I am blind. Please grant me permission to perform Salat at home". He enquired whether he could hear the call: Hayya 'alas-Salah; Hayya 'alal-Falah (Come to the prayer, come to the salvation). When he replied in affirmative, the Messenger of Allah directed him to come (to mosque) for prayer". Abu Dawud.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of a blind man who asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for permission to pray at home due to his blindness and fear of poisonous insects and wild beasts in Madinah. The Prophet Muhammad's response was that if he could hear the call for prayer then he should come out and join others in praying in congregation. This hadith teaches us that even though we may have physical limitations or disabilities, we should still strive our best to perform our religious duties as much as possible. It also shows us how compassionate and understanding the Prophet was towards those who were physically challenged or disabled by granting them special permissions when needed.
