Responding To The Call Of Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught a blind man to respond to the call of prayer even if he was not able to go to the mosque.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A blind man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have no one to guide me to the mosque". He, therefore, sought his permission to perform Salat (prayer) in his house. He granted him permission. When the man turned away, he called him back, and said, "Do you hear the Adhan (call to prayer)?" He replied in the affirmative. The Messenger of Allah then directed him to respond to it. Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make an effort towards fulfilling religious obligations despite any obstacles faced in life .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a blind man who asked the Prophet Muhammad for permission to pray in his house instead of going to the mosque. The Prophet Muhammad granted him permission, but then asked if he could hear the call of prayer, or adhan. When he said yes, the Prophet instructed him that he should still respond and answer it even though he was not able to go physically. This teaches us that we should always strive our best and make an effort towards fulfilling our religious obligations no matter what obstacles we may face in life. Even if we are unable to do something due to physical limitations or other reasons, we can still make an effort by responding spiritually and mentally towards it.
