Sunan Ibn Majah 85 (Book) #36987
Consequences of Disputing About Divine Decree

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the consequences of disputing about the Divine Decree and how it led to the doom of nations before us.

'Amr in Shu'aib narrated from his father that his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah came out to his Companions when they were disputing about the Divine Decree, and it was as if pomegranate seeds had burst on his face (ie turned red) because of anger. He said: 'Have you been commanded to do this, or were you created for this purpose? You are using one part of the Qur'an against another part, and this is what led to the doom of the nations who came before you'." 'Abdullah bin 'Amr said: "I was never happy to have missed a gathering with the Messenger of Allah as I was to have missed that gathering'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect each other's opinion even if they differ from yours; take heed from lessons learned by previous generations/nations; obey Allah's commands; caution others against wrong-doing etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how disputing about divine decree can lead to dire consequences, as it did for many nations before us. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was so angry when he saw his companions arguing that it seemed like pomegranate seeds had burst on his face due to anger. He asked them if they were commanded by Allah or created for this purpose, warning them that using one part of Quran against another will lead to destruction as it did with other nations before them. Abdullah bin Amr was so regretful for missing such an important gathering with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ where he warned people against disputing divine decree and its consequences. We should take heed from this lesson and not dispute matters related to faith or religion as we do not want our nation or ourselves facing similar fate as those who came before us.
