Honouring Hair

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Abu Qatada asking the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if he should comb his hair and the Prophet's response was to honour it.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Abu Qatada al-Ansari said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "I have a lot of hair which comes down to my shoulders, shall I comb it?'' The Messenger of Allah. may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Yes, and honour it". Sometimes Abu Qatada oiled it twice in one day because the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him".Honour it".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of honouring one's hair. It is narrated by Yahya ibn Said from Malik from Abu Qatada al-Ansari that he asked the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, whether he should comb his hair which came down to his shoulders. The Prophet responded positively and said that he should honour it. This implies that we must take care of our physical appearance in a respectful manner as it reflects our inner self. We must also be mindful of how we present ourselves to others as this can have an impact on how they perceive us. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us to be conscious of our actions and strive for excellence in all aspects of life - even something as simple as taking care of our hair!
