Sahih al-Bukhari 369 (Book 8, Hadith 21) #365
Prohibiting Paganism and Nakedness during Hajj

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the announcement made by Abu Bakr and Ali on the day of Nahr in Mina, that no pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after that year and no naked person is allowed to perform Tawaf around the Ka'ba.

Narrated Abu Huraira: On the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hijja, in the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet when Abu Bakr was the leader of the pilgrims in that Hajj) Abu Bakr sent me along with other announcers to Mina to make a public announcement: "No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba. Then Allah's Messenger sent 'Ali to read out the Surat Bara'a (at-Tauba) to the people; so he made the announcement along with us on the day of Nahr in Mina: "No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect religious practices

EXPLANATIONS:
On the Day of Nahr in Mina during the last Hajj of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Abu Bakr sent announcers including Abu Huraira to make a public announcement that no pagan was allowed to perform Hajj after that year and no naked person was allowed to perform Tawaf around the Ka’aba. Then Allah's Messenger ﷺ sent Ali to read out Surat Bara’a at-Tauba which reiterated this announcement. This hadith teaches us about respecting religious practices by prohibiting paganism and nudity during Hajj as it is an important Islamic ritual. It also shows us how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ respected other religions by allowing them one last chance before prohibiting their practice completely.
