Forbidden Sales and Practices Related to Clothing

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade two kinds of sales and two other practices related to clothing.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet forbade two kinds of sales ie Al-Limais and An-Nibadh (the former is a kind of sale in which the deal is completed if the buyer touches a thing, without seeing or checking it properly and the latter is a kind of a sale in which the deal is completed when the seller throws a thing towards the buyer giving him no opportunity to see, touch or check it) and (the Prophet forbade) also Ishtimal-As- Samma' and Al-Ihtiba' in a single garment.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a set of practices that were forbidden by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These include two types of sales, Al Limais and An Nibadh, as well as Ishtimal As Samma’ and Al Ihtiba’ in a single garment. Al Limais is a type of sale where the buyer touches an item without seeing or checking it properly. An Nibadh is when the seller throws an item towards the buyer without giving them an opportunity to see, touch or check it. Ishtimal As Samma’ means covering one’s whole body with a single garment while Al Ihtiba’ refers to looking at one’s own body parts with desire. All these practices are prohibited according to this hadith narrated by Abu Huraira ﷺ .
