Sahih al-Bukhari 3777 (Book 63, Hadith 2) #3605
The Battle of Bu'ath and its Benefits

SUMMARY: Allah brought about the battle of Bu'ath for the good of His Prophet so that the people of Medina would accept Islam.

Narrated 'Aisha: The day of Bu'ath (ie Day of fighting between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Aus and Khazraj) was brought about by Allah for the good of His Apostle so that when Allah's Messenger reached (Medina), the tribes of Medina had already divided and their chiefs had been killed and wounded. So Allah had brought about the battle for the good of H is Apostle in order that they (ie the Ansar) might embrace Islam.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have peaceful intentions when taking action; use war as a means to bring justice if necessary; accept Islam if presented with it; follow teachings from prophets sent by God.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a battle called Bu’ath which took place in Medina before the arrival of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was a battle between two tribes, Aus and Khazraj, who were living in Medina at that time. According to this hadith, Allah brought about this battle for the good of His Messenger ﷺ so that when he arrived in Medina, these two tribes would have already divided and their chiefs killed or wounded. This way they would be more likely to accept Islam when it was presented to them by Muhammad ﷺ. Thus this hadith teaches us that even though war is not something desirable or pleasant, sometimes it can be used as a means to bring peace and justice if it is done with good intentions.
