SUMMARY: It is recommended to pray on the day of Fitr before the prayer in the mosque.

Yahya related to me from Hisham ibn Urwa that his father used to pray on the day of Fitr before the prayer in the mosque.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray two rak'ahs on Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha as an act of worship towards Allah.

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of Fitr, it is recommended to offer a prayer before attending congregational prayers in a mosque. This hadith was narrated by Hisham ibn Urwa, who reported that his father used to do so. This practice is an act of worship and devotion towards Allah and can be done anywhere, not necessarily in a mosque. It also serves as an expression of gratitude for all that Allah has blessed us with throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “Whoever prays two rak’ahs on Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha will have a reward like that of Hajj and Umrah combined” [Sunan Ibn Majah]. Therefore, it is important for Muslims to remember this Sunnah when celebrating these festivals.
