The Sunnah of No Call to Prayer on Eid

SUMMARY: The call to prayer and iqama for the two Islamic festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha have not been practiced since the time of Prophet Muhammad.

Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard more than one of their men of knowledge say, "There has been no call to prayer or iqama for the id al-Fitr or the id al-Adha since the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace". Malik said, "That is the sunna about which there is no disagreement among us".

EXPLANATIONS:
According to a hadith narrated by Yahya from Malik, it is a sunna that there is no call to prayer or iqama for the two Islamic festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha since the time of Prophet Muhammad. This means that Muslims do not perform any special prayers during these two days. Instead, they celebrate these days with joyous festivities such as feasting with family and friends. This hadith also teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammad in all aspects of life including religious practices. We should strive to emulate his example in order to gain Allah's pleasure and blessings.
